I've returned from vacation, and there's something about vacations that gets me thinking about poetry.

The polar caps are melting
Melting! They're melting!
Oh, what a world! What a world!

Actually, vacations don't really get me thinking about poetry as much as they get me thinking about the meaning of place and what it means to come from one place as opposed to another. There's a quote in the latest issue of Adbusters that summed it up nicely, I think:

"Place" once had primacy. It was the site of identity, character, nuance and history. Now that primacy has given way to a fascination with "space" as an abstract and barren realm of boundless extension.
- Edward S. Casey
Space, incidentally, is the name of the magazine put out by IKEA.

When I returned from vacation, I found that I had received the latest issue of Adbusters in the mail.

In time, I also found out that the latest issue of Adbusters doesn't have one proper article in it. Instead, Adbusters has a collage of photos, quotes, and ideas as a means to challenge our modern ideas of place, architecture, nature, and imagination.

As I have stated before, Adbusters is the only magazine I know that has faith that art can convey a message just as well as written argument.

Stand in the place where you live
Now face North
Think about direction
Wonder why you haven't before
Now stand in the place where you work
Now face West
Think about the place where you live
Wonder why you haven't before

This Adbusters also comes with an envelope of seeds so you can do some guerrilla gardening of your own. It's a true Earth Day issue.
